Welded wire mesh concrete is a common and efficient reinforcement material in the structural construction of concrete slabs. Its main advantages are:Welded wire mesh is usually made by welding carbon steel wire. It has high tensile strength, often reaching 1000 MPa or more. With its evenly distributed mesh structure, it effectively disperses the load across the slab. This helps control cracks and improves both the stiffness and long-term durability of the concrete structure.
Why Use Welded Wire Mesh?

Compared with the traditional on-site single steel bar binding method, welded mesh does not require cutting or binding, and has high construction efficiency. The contractor can usually shorten the laying time of a floor slab from 2–3 days to just a few hours by using welded wire mesh, while also reducing error rates and improving overall construction quality.
Thanks to its standardized production, high tensile strength, and ease of installation, engineers and builders across Europe, America, Australia, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia have adopted welded wire mesh as the go-to solution for concrete floor reinforcement.
What Is ASTM A1064 ?
ASTM A1064 is a global ASTM International standard that establishes the standard specifications for steel reinforcing bars, welded steel bars, plain steel bars, and special-shaped steel bars used for reinforcing concrete.
At FUDAS, all welded wire mesh products can be manufactured in full compliance with ASTM A1064 standards, including specifications for wire diameter, yield strength, and spacing tolerances. For large-scale construction projects or tender submissions, we also provide third-party inspection reports (SGS, BV, etc.) upon request, ensuring trust and transparency throughout your procurement process.
This is an ASTM standard covering steel wire and welded wire reinforcement.
Specifications Of Welded Mesh Reinforced Concrete Slabs
Generally speaking, the thickness of the mesh used is proportional to the thickness of the floor in the project. According to your project. FUDAS helps you choose the right product
1.Common wire diameter: 4mm-10mm
2.Common mesh: 150×150mm, 200×200mm, etc.
3.Single sheet size & roll: 2.4*2.6m (customizable)
| Slab Thickness | Suggested Mesh Diameter | Mesh Opening | Spec Example |
| <100mm | 4mm | 150*150mm | 4mm@150 BTO |
| 100-150mm | 6mm | 200*200mm | 6mm@200 CTO |
| >150mm | 8-10mm | 200*200mm | 8mm@200 |
Advantages Of Welded Mesh In Construction

FUDAS provides pre-cut welded mesh tailored to project drawings, enabling faster and more precise installation. Here are the key advantages of this solution:
1.Pre-cut & Ready for Installation
– Welded mesh is pre-cut to exact dimensions based on drawings, eliminating on-site cutting and bundling.
– Workers can directly splice the mesh into place, saving time and labor.
2.Stable Structure & Precise Positioning
– The rigid welded mesh maintains correct reinforcement alignment during concrete pouring.
– Ensures structural consistency and reduces errors in placement.
3.Simplified Construction Process
– Only requires overlapping mesh according to layout diagrams.
– Staggered seams are laid sequentially, minimizing complex on-site adjustments.
4.Wide Applicability
– Ideal for residential floors, industrial plants, underground garages, and foundation slabs.
– A mainstream reinforcement solution for modern construction projects.
This method enhances efficiency, reduces labor costs, and ensures high-quality reinforcement placement.
Precautions In Concrete Floor Construction
1.Maintaining the thickness of the protective layer
The steel mesh should not be laid directly on the formwork or the ground. The mesh should be raised with pads. This ensures a proper protective layer—typically 20–30mm—between the steel bars and the concrete surface. Adequate cover prevents the steel bars from rusting or becoming exposed over time.
2.Reasonable overlap to ensure force continuity
Adjacent meshes should overlap 1-2 mesh holes (i.e. 150-400mm) . And be reinforced by wire tying or spot welding to ensure overall force continuity and prevent concrete cracking.
3.Control displacement during construction
During concrete pouring and vibration, the mesh should be prevented from shifting or lifting. If necessary, positioning steel bars or additional supports can be used to assist in fixing to ensure that the steel mesh remains in the designed position.
4.Main reinforcement direction consistent
To ensure structural performance, installers should lay the mesh in alignment with the load-bearing direction specified in the design drawings. When using a double-layer mesh, they must stagger the upper and lower layers correctly according to their respective stress directions.

Conclusion
Only by choosing the right steel mesh and laying it in accordance with the specifications can the concrete floor be more stable and durable. FUDAS provides welded mesh of various specifications, supports customization and supporting services, please contact us for more technical support.
