Gabion Retaining Wall Baskets
Manufacturer Factory Direct

We specialize in manufacturing structural-grade baskets for Gabion Retaining Wall applications. Engineered to ASTM A975, our flat-packed units are designed for mass production and export, providing civil contractors with a reliable, factory-direct supply chain.

Why choose gabion retaining wall

Flexible Stability

Adapts to ground settlement and seismic shifts without cracking, unlike rigid concrete structures.

Immediate Load Bearing

No curing time or formwork needed. The wall is fully structural immediately after filling.

Free-Draining Structure

The permeable mesh face allows water to escape freely, preventing dangerous hydrostatic pressure buildup.

Retaining wall Design & Construction Details

Structure design drawing of a basic economical gabion retaining wall using native soil backfill for cost-effective landscape projects.

Economical Gravity Design

Foundation Requirement:
Even for basic walls, a compacted base is essential to prevent settlement.

Best For:
Low-height landscape walls (<1.5m) in dry conditions.

Native Soil Backfill:
Directly uses on-site excavated soil. Answers the need for the lowest material cost.

Standard Construction

Blind Drain Detail
Features a construction detail with 100mm perforated pipe wrapped in gravel to channel water.

Balanced Cost
Uses 80% native soil + 20% drainage gravel. Safe & affordable.

Best For
Residential & commercial walls (1.5m – 3m) with moderate rainfall.

Infrastructure Grade System

Full Permeable Backfill:
100% clean aggregate eliminates hydrostatic pressure behind the wall.

Greenery Considerations:

Plants can be grown on top to support greenery needs.

Best For:
Critical infrastructure, riverbanks, or poor clay soil conditions.

Gabion gravity wall dimensions and specifications

Gabion gravity walls are typically used for heights up to 3m – 5m (10ft – 16ft). While structures up to 10m are possible, they require strict engineering.
As a manufacturer, we recommend adhering to the standard “Base-to-Height Ratio” shown above (Base ≈ 50-70% of Height).

Compliant with ASTM D6711.

Selecting the Right Mesh & Stone Fill

Engineering diagram illustrating the 1.5x Rule for gabion stone selection: requiring 4-8 inch angular rock for standard 80x100mm double-twist mesh to ensure stability.

The 1.5x Engineering Rule

To ensure structural stability and prevent material washout, stone diameter must be at least 1.5x the mesh opening.

Ideal Size:
4″ – 8″ (Angular Rock).

Benefit:
Angular stones provide superior mechanical interlock vs. rounded rocks.

Cost Comparison: Gabion vs. Concrete

Reinforced Concrete Wall

High material cost

Requires expensive drainage pipes

Long curing time (28 days)

Expensive skilled labor & formwork

Gabion Gravity Wall

Lower material cost (Local stone)

Zero drainage system cost (Permeable)

Immediate load bearing

Low-skill rapid installation
